Our History
Sheri Boston, R.Ph. and co-owner, opened Southern Pharmaceutical Services in Birmingham, Alabama in April 2001 to provide consumers with the discreet, personalized pharmaceutical care that they typically wouldn't find in a more traditional pharmacy. After graduating from Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Sheri spent more than 10 years working for larger national specialty pharmacies. It soon became clear to Sheri that the level of care for consumers was, in her mind, not sufficient to meet their special needs. "I became very passionate about serving these groups," explains Sheri, " and to focus on this passion, I needed my own pharmacy." So, the Boston's took a leap of faith and realized Sheri's dream. Southern Pharmaceutical has no storefront but operates out of a private, relaxing office environment helping to remove some of the stress which may be burdening those who enter their care. "God has truly blessed our company in some pretty incredible ways.", says husband & co-owner Tom, "We have no desire to be the biggest of our kind... just the very best for those we serve.".
In April of 2005, Southern Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. (Birmingham, AL) and Guardian Pharmacy, LLC (Atlanta, GA) formed Guardian Pharmacy of Birmingham, LLC d/b/a Southern Pharmaceutical Services.
"God blessed our company with incredible growth over a very short time. It quickly became apparent that we needed to align ourselves with people who had a greater level of healthcare industry expertise and available capital to sustain the growth in a manner that wouldn't take away from our award winning patient service levels. We found just that and more in partnering with Guardian. Our strength in sales and service coupled with Guardian's strength in negotiating with national vendors and third party payers has reaped exponential dividends."
At Southern, we will continue to provide discreet, highly personalized treatment to fertility, behavioral health, and other clients dealing with long term care related issues.
